Who is eligible for adult driving lessons in Virginia?

To book behind-the-wheel lessons you need:

  • To be 18 or older
  • A Virginia learner's permit

That's it for the lessons themselves. The Adult Waiver asks for two more things:

  • A driver education course completed — or proof of one, via form DEC-1 or DTS 36
  • 7 periods observing another student driving

Why the Adult Waiver is worth it

Students who complete the driver education course and the behind-the-wheel lessons, then pass the road test with us, are issued an Adult Waiver. It waives two things: taking the road test at the DMV, and holding your learner's permit for 60 days before you can be licensed.

Haven't done driver education? You can take the 30-hour course online with us.

If you hold a Driver Privilege Card (DPC) rather than US citizenship, Virginia requires you to complete the final road skills test at the DMV. You can still take lessons with us — our road test car rental covers the test itself.

When lessons run

Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm. VIP Perks ($149) secures 8:00–9:00am lessons, Saturdays, and priority scheduling — the slots that tend to survive a work schedule.

Completing lessons does not guarantee a license. Drivers with little or no experience will need additional lessons or practice. We'd rather say so early than send you to a test you aren't ready for.

We're committed to high-quality instruction for every student, but we don't have the specialized facilities, equipment, or training to accommodate certain disabilities and impairments.
